Electric Vehicle & EV/PHEV Ambassador Team List

Have you read about EVs and PHEVs and still have questions?
Would you like to talk to a Thetford resident who owns an EV or PHEV?

Ask Our EV/PHEV Ambassador Team!

A group of Thetford EV and PHEV owners have come together to form our EV Ambassador Team. These Ambassadors have helped create the content on this website and many have offered to answer your questions as you consider which EV or PHEV is right for you.  Below are comments from several Ambassadors about their EVs and a list of vehicles they own.

What are the Thetford EV Ambassadors saying about their EVs?

I love my Hyundai Kona Electric, and my wife does too. For 95% of driving we do, it has long enough range that it doesn't need charging on the road. The smooth, quiet and effortless power from the electric motor are addicting. I had co-workers who got electric cars before I did, and answered a lot of questions for me. So I am happy to do the same for others who are interested.
– Eric Pyle, EV Ambassador, Hyundai Kona EV

Initially owning an EV was stressful when it came to knowing how long I could drive on a charge and being sure we would be close to a charger if away from home. After a couple months it got to be second nature, and although it does take longer to charge a car than fill it up with gas, it's just a regular part of life now. I wouldn't go back to owning a gas-powered car if you paid me!
- Sarah Holzer, EV Ambassador, Tesla Model S

We love our Chevy Bolt. Occasionally we use our Subaru Outback to transport big stuff or to drive in a blizzard, but the rest of the time, the Bolt is our number one choice to drive. Our daughter in Los Angeles also got a Bolt recently. The car has really good pickup/acceleration, so for getting on and off highways - especially freeways with heavy traffic and short entrance ramps - the performance is great.
- ES, EV Ambassador, Chevy Bolt

After driving a Prius and then Chevy Volt (gas/electric hybrid) I was prepared to go all electric. I LOVE not having to go to the gas station. I've taken several 250+ mile trips. After driving that long, I don't mind stopping to charge and using that break time to grab a snack, check email, make calls, or catch up on Netflix. Good-bye gas. Forever.
- KLK, EV Ambassador, Tesla Model 3

Below is a list of EVs and PHEVs in Thetford. If the owner is listed, they have offered to answer questions about their EV/PHEV with the goal of helping you determine which vehicle might be right for you. Simply click on the owner’s name to send them an email with your questions. Ambassadors may be willing to have a follow-up conversation with you as well; just ask.

Thetford EV and PHEV Survey Highlights

In February, 2021, the Joint Thetford Energy Committee conducted a survey of EV owners in town. The goal was to help obtain a census of EV/PHEV vehicles in town. An additional goal was to gauge the interest of EV/PHEV owners in sharing their purchase and ownership experience with their EV(s). The response was great and now we have the EV Ambassador program.

Additionally, we asked a few questions about their purchase and ownership experience. Below are the highlights from these questions.

1. Incentives

Incentives played an important role in the decision to buy an EV or PHEV. 61% indicated that incentives were Extremely or Very Important. This rises to 70% when Moderately Important responses are included.

2. Used vs New

As EVs and PHEVs are becoming more common, the availability of used vehicles has increased. Additionally, incentives for used vehicles are being introduced. This is important as 2/3rds of annual car sales in Vermont are used vehicles. 15% of Thetford's EVs/PHEVs were purchases used.

3. Charging

Owners use a variety of charging strategies.
- All but one owner charges their car at home at least some of the time.
- Over half of the respondents (18) charge only at home.
- 19 owners use only one method of charging:
Level 1 only: 7, Level 2 only: 11, public charging only: 1
- 50% of the PHEV owners (4) use Level 1 charging exclusively whereas only 12% of EV owners (3) exclusively use Level 1 charging
- 14 respondents use multiple charging options

(Note: total sums to more than 100% due to multiple responses by some respondents)
