The Town Clerk is responsible for recording and preserving land records and vital records for the town and helps the public access the many public records available here. We maintain the minutes of the town meetings and committee meetings, maintain the voter checklist and absentee balloting and oversee elections. Other services we provide at town hall include: processing animal licenses, Vermont Fish and Games Licenses & Land Posting, Civil Marriage Licenses, Green Mountain Passports, Tobacco & Liquor Licenses, DMV Registration Renewals and sale of trash tickets & permits. Please see fees below.

Animal Licensing

Dogs, Wolf Hybrids, and Ferrets, according with Title 20 s3581, over 6 months of age must be registered by April 1. A copy of current rabies vaccine and spay/neutering (if applicable) must be presented at time of licensing. New residents have 90 days to register animals before penalties apply.

After April 1, there is a $10 Late Fee plus the following;

Temporary renewal of registration is available at the Thetford Town Clerk’s office. We must have your renewal notice, and payment to VT DMV in check or money order, and a separate $3.00 payment to the Town of Thetford (cash or check).

Land Posting

To legally post property in Thetford against hunting and fishing a form must be filed with the Town Clerk who will send to the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife. The filing fee is $5.00 payable to the Town of Thetford. Print off the form, complete all information, sign the form, keep a copy, then mail the original with the $5.00 fee to:

Book 43 (1966) through current documents are online with indexing and images. Books 1 through 42 are available by book and page number search.

This portal allows complimentary subscription to view indexes only. For subscription fee (listed below) you may view and print (for a fee) the documents.

Daily $4 per 24 hours, plus $1 per page

Monthly $15 plus $1 per page

Annual subscription $10, plus $2 per page

Transfer Station Permits & Trash Tickets

Thetford Transfer Station
Permits are required to use the Transfer Station. The cost is $25 for a permit which expires on 12/31. You can purchase your Thetford permit at Town Hall during normal business hours, through the mail by sending a $25 check to the address above, or by putting a check in the drop box at Town Hall. Trash service is provided by Quinttown Container Services, and you will pay them directly each Saturday.

Hartford Recycling Center
We also sell permits and trash punch cards (10 punches) for the Hartford Center. These permits, for July 1-June 30, are $30 per permit, and $51.50 per punch card (for up to 40 pounds of household trash). There is a one day permit, $10, which is purchased at the Hartford location. They allow access to the Hartford Recycle Center, you'll find more information (hours of operation, special events, etc.) Here
